Oil Paints
I use the Permalba Professional Oil Paints
from Martin/F. Weber almost exclusively in my art work.
I love the rich pigmentation and the coverage I can achieve
from this excellent grade of paint. I recommend the investment
of this superior grade of paint if at all possible.
If teaching and find a more economical paint to be more
feasible, the Prima Oil Paints, also from Martin/F. Weber,
would be my next recommendation. Their pigment rich creamy
consistency will out perform all other student and economy
brands and match other higher priced colors.
Check the Permalba Oil Paint Color Chips and the Prima
Oil Color Chips to view the wide variety of colors available
in these two paint lines.

Artist Brushes
I use a Bristle
Brush to base in background color and
anywhere a heavier application of paint is needed. These
brushes perform well and withstand the scrubbing technique
often used in background applications. My choice of bristle
brushes are the Professional Permalba
Line from Martin/F. Weber or the Scharff 215 Flat series.
The Scharff
Classic Series is excellent for detail oil
painting of any subject. I use the flats for creating nearly
any subjects form and detail with the exception of foliage.
For foliage and floral detail I highly recommend the Scharff
Classic Series Filberts.
I use the Permalba
Red Sable Flat brush when I need a
soft touch for doing fine detail in still life paintings,
florals, buildings, etc. A Script
Liner is used anywhere
fine lines or very small detail is needed.

Basic Clear Medium
The Basic Clear Medium that I use for many of my paintings
is a blend of DaVinci Alkyd Gel, DaVinci
Safflower Oil and Turpenoid
Odorless Thinner. This is a slight variation
of a mixture I first learned of through artist Robert Warren
and have adapted to my painting style. This can be used
as a clear medium to prep your support surface prior to
painting in oils and as a blending and glazing medium for
follow up work after the original painting has dried. Complete
instructions on how to mix this Basic
Clear Medium is included
with each DaVinci Alkyd Gel purchased from Kitty Gorrell
Studio.
